BVI vs Cayman Islands company
The British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands are both British Overseas Territories with no corporate income or capital gains tax. The BVI business company is mainly a holding and joint-venture vehicle; the Cayman exempted company is mainly used for investment funds and the companies around them. Both have economic substance rules and record beneficial owners.

Our take
A BVI business company suits holding companies, personal investment holdings and joint ventures that want a widely understood vehicle, and that accept beneficial ownership filing from 10% and the BVI's place in Annex II of the EU list.
A Cayman exempted company suits fund sponsors, master–feeder structures and groups whose investors expect Cayman; it can obtain a tax undertaking of up to 30 years and the islands are not on the EU list. Neither removes tax where the owners live: controlled foreign company rules and management from abroad can bring the profits back into tax.
