Grenada citizenship by investment

Grenadian citizenship by investment is a discretionary grant of citizenship by the Minister, on the recommendation of the Citizenship by Investment Committee, after due diligence and an interview. In 2026 qualifying investments are a USD 235,000 National Transformation Fund contribution or an approved real estate project from USD 270,000.

Updated

The National Transformation Fund takes a one-time contribution, paid only through an authorised local agent. USD 235,000 covers a single applicant, a couple or a family of four; siblings, and parents or grandparents aged 55 or under, fall outside that price. Larger families pay USD 25,000 or USD 50,000 for each further dependant, depending on category, and USD 75,000 for each sibling.

Approved real estate means a unit in a project the Minister has approved and gazetted, mostly hotels, resorts and villas. The minimum is USD 350,000 for a whole unit or USD 270,000 per share in an approved tourism project, and the investment must be held for five years. Since 10 November 2025 every investor signs a notarised attestation and shows a bank debit advice proving the funds went straight to the developer or government account.

The interview is mandatory and held online. The IMA states approval within 60 business days of submission and offers no expedited service.

Under the 2026 bill, new citizens must spend 30 days in Grenada over the first five years, each named person at least five days in the first twelve months, and take part in an integration programme. First passports would run for five years, renewable for ten only once compliance is certified. Commencement is on hold, but the bill lets the Minister apply the rule to pending files.

Grenada accepts dual citizenship, yet the country whose passport you hold today may treat a voluntary second nationality as grounds for loss of its own, so check first. Licensed local agents submit the file, and qualified lawyers should advise you on the legal and tax consequences.

Who it suits

  • Families of up to four

One fund price covers you, a spouse and two children, which keeps the cost predictable.

  • Entrepreneurs with long-term US plans

You can live in Grenada for three years before an E-2 application and want that option open.

  • Investors in tourism property

You prefer a share in an approved hotel or resort you can sell after five years.

  • Applicants who want residence first

The fund route allows permanent residence before citizenship.

Requirements

  • Main applicant aged 18 or over

Applications go through an international marketing agent and a licensed local agent.

    Required
  • Good health

A medical certificate for the main applicant and each family member.

    Required
  • Clean record

The Government refuses applicants with an unpardoned conviction for an offence punishable in Grenada by over six months in prison, a pending criminal investigation, a security or reputational risk, or a visa refusal by a visa-free country that was never followed by a visa.

    Required
  • Own, lawful funds

A notarised attestation and bank debit advice showing the money came from your declared source.

    Required
  • Online interview

    Mandatory for applicants.

    Required
  • Residence and integration after the grant

Required once the 2026 rules commence; currently deferred.

Tax notes

  • Grenada taxes residents under its own income tax law; becoming a citizen without living there does not make you a Grenadian tax resident.
  • Your current country continues to tax you while you remain resident there, and US citizens stay taxable in the United States wherever they live.
  • An E-2 visa is an immigration status, not a tax status: time spent in the United States can create US tax residence. Get advice before moving.

General information, not tax advice. Your position depends on your circumstances.

Banking fit

  • Banks accept a Grenadian passport as identity but will still ask for proof of address and tax residence elsewhere.
  • If you plan an E-2 business, expect the US bank to examine both your domicile history and the source of the investment.

Questions

How much does Grenada citizenship by investment cost in 2026?

The fund route is USD 235,000 for a single applicant or a family of up to four. Approved real estate starts at USD 270,000 per share, or USD 350,000 for a whole unit.

Can my family be included?

Yes. A spouse, children, parents, grandparents and siblings who depend on you can be included. The fund price covers up to four people; further dependants cost extra, and siblings are priced separately. Your agent confirms the age conditions for each category.

Does Grenada citizenship give access to the US E-2 visa?

Grenada has an E-2 treaty with the United States, but people who obtained Grenadian nationality through investment must first have been domiciled in Grenada for three continuous years. The E-2 also has its own investment and business requirements.

Is there a residence requirement in Grenada?

Not yet in force. The 2026 bill sets 30 days over the first five years, with at least five days per person in year one. The IMA has deferred the start until the regional regulator operates, and the Minister may apply it to pending files.

How long does the Grenada application take?

The IMA states that applications are approved within 60 business days of submission, subject to satisfactory due diligence and receipt of funds. Preparing documents beforehand and issuing passports afterwards add time.
